This year we will have some wonderful gifts for sale as well as a theatre performance and carols on Friday night. We hope you can come along and celebrate the festive season and help us raise some much needed money.

Fundraising update

Once again Karuna’s craft group has shown just how wonderful they are at fundraising! In the last month the ladies organized another Bridge Day at Karuna which attracted over 60 players and raised nearly $4000 which is a wonderful achievement.

They also baked and barbequed at The Brisbane Festival’s Brisbane Backyards jazz concert which took place at Stuart and Jan Gregory’s home in Newmarket. It was a beautiful afternoon with Brazilian music and a lovely atmosphere. A big thank you to Stuart and Jan and our brilliant craft ladies who raised over $600 for Karuna!

If you have a business please consider giving a gift voucher or a new item to our Christmas market. Likewise if you have any items at home that would make a nice present and haven’t been opened please also think about donating them to us! Your donation can be large or small and will be used as raffle prizes and will help us raise much needed funds.

We are also in need of Christmas food, jams, pickles, cakes and biscuits to sell at our Christmas market. If you are a keen baker please email renee.b@karuna.org.au or telephone 3632 8325 about the items you could donate.

They will need to be dropped off at Karuna between the 23 and 26 November. Thank you!

Volunteer program commences

A training course for Karuna’s new Family Support volunteers has commenced early this month. This popular course comprises eight one-day sessions and prepares people to work as palliative care volunteers who will support clients, families and carers. Upon completion of the course participants may be selected to join Karuna’s invaluable Family Support volunteer team. Our Family Support volunteers commit to support Karuna once a week for at least 12 months. Many of our current volunteers have been with us for a number of years and really enjoy the experience.

Palliative care counsellors collaborate

Last month the Karuna Family Support team hosted an inaugural South-East Queensland Palliative Care Counsellor Network meeting. Counsellors, social workers, psychologists and therapists from Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba attended and shared knowledge, experiences and research. The meeting was very successful and will take place every six months.

Christmas appeal

Karuna’s Christmas appeal will be mailed out in early November and we are looking for people who would be interested in helping. It would require up to four hours of your time and will involve “stuffing” envelopes. The exact date is yet to be confirmed but will most likely be during the first week of November. Morning tea will be provided.

If you are interested please email renee.b@karuna.org.au or
telephone 3632 8300.
