Charter of compassion
On November 12 Karuna participated in the unveiling of the Charter of Compassion, a worldwide initiative based on the fundamental principles of universal justice and respect.
The Charter was crafted by a council of diverse religious leaders and thinkers, including Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Rabbi Awraham Sotendorp, and Sheikh Ali Gomaa from the words of people all over the world. The main focus is that the chief task of our generation is to build a global community, in which all the people of the world can live together in peace and harmony.
Plaques inscribed with the words of the Charter, designed by Yves Behar, were hung in temples, churches, mosques, ashrams, synagogues and other significant religious and secular buildings around the world.
Karuna is one of only five venues to be chosen in Australia to host the charter. Others include the Sydney Opera House, an Aboriginal cultural centre, a church and a synagogue.
