Everyone at Karuna would like to wish you a wonderful Christmas and a joyful New Year.
We would also like to thank you for your ongoing support and kindness throughout 2009.

Annual Christmas market a success!

Karuna’s annual Christmas market was once again a wonderful success as we managed to raise over $16,000. On the Friday night we had a great crowd and the homemade food was incredibly popular. We actually sold out and all the wonderful craft ladies went home and cooked more!

The carols and theatre performance were so much fun and it was so nice to see people young and old enjoying our garden and getting into the Christmas spirit.

The market would not have taken place if not for the tireless support of Karuna’s craft group who worked hard throughout the year to make beautiful items to sell. Thank you ladies! We would also like to thank everyone who cooked and donated delicious food as well as those who gave us lovely items to raffle. In particular we would like to thank Amanda from Panda Pearls who once again supported us.

Charter of compassion

On November 12 Karuna participated in the unveiling of the Charter of Compassion, a worldwide initiative based on the fundamental principles of universal justice and respect.

The Charter was crafted by a council of diverse religious leaders and thinkers, including Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Rabbi Awraham Sotendorp, and Sheikh Ali Gomaa from the words of people all over the world. The main focus is that the chief task of our generation is to build a global community, in which all the people of the world can live together in peace and harmony.

Plaques inscribed with the words of the Charter, designed by Yves Behar, were hung in temples, churches, mosques, ashrams, synagogues and other significant religious and secular buildings around the world.

Karuna is one of only five venues to be chosen in Australia to host the charter. Others include the Sydney Opera House, an Aboriginal cultural centre, a church and a synagogue.
